It all began in her mother's kitchen, where Cristina Gutierrez whipped up treats for her family and friends. Compliments aplenty and with an obvious penchant for all things sweet, the young chef dreamed of opening a business of her own to share her passion for delectable delights.
Five years later she has realised that dream in the Dulce Bakery and Cafe, Cristina's very own avenue for stirring up sugary confections that satisfy not only the eye, but the palate as well! From custom cakes and pastries to baked goods of every kind - if you can imagine it, Chef Cristina can make it.
The establishment, which opened its doors on November 30, 2011 doesn't only satisy the sweet tooth, but also offers the savoury creations of Priscilla Vazquez, Cristina's mother, who after retiring put her heart into helping and seeing her daughter's aspirations take flight. She is co-owner of Dulce, and whips up breakfast and lunch favourites on the bakery and cafe's extensive menu, where one can even find gluten-free options.
For as little as ONE dollar ($1) you can take home something absolutely delightful! The menu features cookies, churros, cake balls and cupcakes (to name a few), and a variety of soups, sandwiches, tacos and salads that one can purchase from breakfast through to suppertime. There's a kids' menu too, and complimentary tea with breakfast and lunch, along with special deals from time to time during the holidays and through the social-buying network, Living Social.
Customers can also lounge in a loveseat, enjoying a warm, freshly-brewed cup of java or a tall glass of ice-cold Italian soda, all whilst reading their favourite book, newspaper or tabloid. Not much of a reader? Then browse the web, enjoying the free WiFi offered by the cafe for its customers. The laid-back and "homey" feel of this eatery proves to be more than just your typical coffee shop. They even have live music every Friday and Saturday nights!
It's only the beginning, but the future looks bright for Dulce. There are plans for expansion in the works, including drive-thru convenience and additional locations. We know we're not the only ones who would love to be able to simply pop around the corner for a frappe with our friends, pick up a personalised birthday cake for our niece, or indulge in a slice of mouth-watering red velvet cake.
Now wouldn't that be sweet?
