In the interior design world today, a lot of people are looking at their existing home with new eyes. It isn’t as easy as it once was to buy a new home, or you just don’t want t go through all the trouble of moving! It can be very stressful. So when you step back and look at your home wanting something new, where can you get your best investments?
Your kitchen is a great place to start! Have you noticed when you throw a party or have a get together your guests seem t o gather in the kitchen where you are working to get things finished? We spend a lot of our time in this room. So what are the trends in 2012 for the kitchen?
1) Concealed Appliances! More and more designers are trying to make the appliances blend into the background. Many refrigerators and dishwashers are getting panels to match their cabinetry already but another option is built in coffee centers, warming drawers, and steam ovens. This allows things to blend in more seamlessly and you have less clutter on the countertops.
2) Countertops with custom touches! Granite will continue to be a popular choice with homeowners but sometimes they want to add a bit more and one way you can achieve this is by adding a butcher block or marble slab. Homeowners are also choosing green or recycled materials such as glass, quartz, concrete, and bamboo. Don’t think you have to have one material as your countertop, mix and match!
3) So what are the trends for wood tones for cabinetry? This does depend largely on how you live and your personal style but maple has been making a comeback. It is a great color for contemporary design or for a light and airy kitchen. Painted white or off white cabinetry is still strong along with dark cabinets for traditional design.
Remember you are designing your kitchen for you and your family. It should reflect how you live and your taste! Happy Remodeling!
